Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese method of healing. It is used to regulate or correct the flow of qi "vital energy" in the "meridians or channels" of the body to restore health. An imbalance in the flow of qi throughout a meridian is how disease begins. The treatment includes the insertion of fine, sterile needles to specific acupoints on the body to restore the balance to the flow of qi.
According to the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, acupuncture may be considered as a therapy for the following conditions. The conditions labeled with * are also included in the World Health Organization list of acupuncture indications.
