Acne Treatments and Acne Scar Removal

Long-term control of acne with the use of lasers has been proven in clinical studies. As a result of these findings, Dr. Miller incorporates lasers as a key part of her treatment protocol. She may also prescribe other non-laser skin care products and evaluate dietary factors to provide the best care.

Fotona's Nd:YAG laser is perfectly suited for prevention and early reduction of acne inflammation. The Micro-Spot Fractional CO2 Laser is effectively and safely used for skin resurfacing in the most severe acne scarring cases.

The even absorption and deep penetrative capabilities of Fotona Nd:YAG laser light in skin results in eradication of bacteria in pores and induces collagen regeneration. The Fotona long pulse Nd:YAG laser is the ideal tool to not only treat but also prevent acne inflammation.

The Micro-Spot Fractional CO2 Laser is ideally suited for epidermal ablation which opens the pores and cleanses the epidermis, contributing to the prevention and early treatment of acne. More-over, the Micro-Spot Resurfacing Procedure is extremely adept at very precisely and rapidly removing complex acne scarring because of its ablative capacities.

Tattoo Removal

svc150-tattoo.jpgReduce or eliminate the appearance of sun damage, freckles, age spots, brown spots, and tattoos with our Q-Switched Laser.

The target lesion or tattoo absorbs the laser’s short pulses of light causing it to fragment into smaller particles that are safely removed by the body’s immune system.

The Fotona QX Laser combines two laser wavelengths to provide maximum light absorption by a variety of tattoo inks and colors.

Age Spots and Pigmented Lesions

svc150-cafeaulait.jpgAge/sun spots, also known as lentigines are harmless, flat, brown discolorations of the skin which usually occur on the back of the hands, neck and face of people over the age of 40. These spots give away a person's age and are caused by the skin being exposed to too much sun over many years without adequate sunscreen protection. Such spots are usually harmless and do not require treatment unless they change color, size or becomes raised and crusty.

Laser treatment of age spots offers the most effective means for the removal of such discolourations. The treatment is quick and painless. There is no need for any needles or anesthesia. These spots rarely return and the risk of scarring is very minimal.

The laser works by targeting the brown pigment, or "melanin," present in the skin of these spots. This pigment absorbs the laser's energy and becomes scattered within the skin's tissues. The rest is done by the body's own immune system as the skin's cleansing cells, called "macro-phages," digest the excess pigment and clear it from the area.

Usually age spots require only one or two treatments for removal, although larger, darker spots may require more. Once treated the age spots will not return. However laser treatment cannot stop the ageing of the skin and other age spots will appear in time. In order to minimise this patients should use sunscreen and avoid direct exposure to the sun.

Tucany's Nd:YAG lasers are the perfect choice for the removal of age spots since the laser's wavelength is absorbed by the melanin in the spots. In addition the Nd:YAG laser ensures the non-ablative treatment of such discolourations.

Rosacea Treatments

svc150-rosacea.jpgRosacea is a chronic skin condition that afflicts approximately 16 million North Americans between the age of 30 and 65. An acne-like condition rosacea often has a significant psychological impact upon sufferers who report that the condition affects their self confidence negatively.

Rosacea typically starts with redness on the cheeks, chin, forehead or nose that can come and go. Occasionally rosacea can occur on the chest, ears, neck and scalp. In some cases the eyes can also be affected appearing bloodshot, dry and swollen. Over time the redness becomes more persistent and visible blood vessels appear. If the condition is not treated bumps and pimples develop and the skin can become tender and sensitive to touch. In severe cases the nose can grow swollen and bumpy from excess tissue (rhinophyma).

Although the condition can affect all people, fair-skinned individuals who blush or flush more easily are more prone to developing rosacea. While women are more likely to develop the condition than men, male sufferers tend to develop more severe symptoms.

Because rosacea varies from one patient to the next, a physician should determine treatment.
